Understanding what data we gather to serve you better
To provide you with personalized nutrition guidance and meal planning services, we collect various types of information. This section provides a detailed breakdown of each category of data we collect, why we need it, and how it enhances your experience with Eatyol.
When you create an account with Eatyol, we collect basic information necessary to establish and maintain your account. This information forms the foundation of your relationship with our service.
Your email serves as your unique identifier and primary communication channel. We use it for account creation, login verification, password recovery, important service notifications, and responding to your inquiries. We never share your email with third parties for marketing purposes without your explicit consent.
Your chosen name personalizes your Eatyol experience. This is the name that appears in your profile, greetings, and any social features within the app. You can change your display name at any time through your account settings. This can be your real name, a nickname, or any name you prefer to be called.
You have the option to upload a profile photo to personalize your account. This is completely optional and can be added, changed, or removed at any time. Profile photos are stored securely in encrypted cloud storage and are only visible to you unless you choose to participate in any community features where profiles may be shared.
Your password is encrypted using industry-standard bcrypt hashing algorithms before being stored in our database. We never store passwords in plain text, and even our team members cannot view your password. We strongly recommend using a unique, strong password that includes a mix of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Enable two-factor authentication for additional security.
If you choose to sign up or log in using social authentication (Sign in with Google, Sign in with Apple), we receive limited profile information from these providers. For Google, this includes your email address, name, and profile picture. For Apple Sign In, you can choose to share your email (or use Apple's private relay email) and name. We only access the information you explicitly authorize during the sign-in process. You can manage these permissions through your Google or Apple account settings at any time.
Health data is at the core of Eatyol's personalized nutrition services. This information allows us to calculate your nutritional needs accurately and create meal plans that align with your health goals. We treat this data with the highest level of security and confidentiality.
Important Privacy Note
Your health data is encrypted using AES-256 encryption and stored in secure, HIPAA-compliant infrastructure. We will never sell your health information to third parties. This data is used exclusively to provide you with personalized nutrition services.
Your height and weight are fundamental metrics for calculating your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE). These calculations determine how many calories your body needs daily and form the basis for personalized meal plans. You can update these measurements at any time as your weight changes. Historical weight data helps us track your progress and adjust recommendations accordingly.
Body Mass Index (BMI) is automatically calculated from your height and weight using the standard formula: weight (kg) / height (m)². While BMI has limitations and doesn't account for muscle mass or body composition, it provides a general indicator of healthy weight ranges. We use BMI as one of many factors, not the sole determinant, in creating your nutrition plan. Our system considers BMI alongside your activity level, goals, and other health factors for a holistic approach.
Understanding your dietary preferences is crucial for creating meal plans you'll actually enjoy and follow. We collect information about your preferred eating style, which may include: vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, ketogenic, paleo, Mediterranean, low-carb, high-protein, or any other dietary approach. We also note whether these preferences are due to personal choice, religious beliefs, ethical considerations, or health reasons. This ensures that every recipe and meal plan we suggest aligns with your lifestyle and values.
Your safety is our top priority. We collect detailed information about your food allergies, intolerances, and medical dietary restrictions. This includes common allergens like peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, eggs, soy, wheat/gluten, fish, and shellfish, as well as specific food intolerances (e.g., lactose, fructose). We also track medical restrictions such as low-sodium for hypertension, low-sugar for diabetes, or other doctor-prescribed dietary limitations. This information is used to automatically filter out unsafe ingredients from all meal recommendations. We treat this information with extreme care as it's critical to your health and safety.
Beyond basic weight, you can optionally track additional body measurements such as waist circumference, hip circumference, chest, arms, thighs, and body fat percentage. These measurements provide a more comprehensive view of your body composition changes, especially important since weight alone doesn't tell the full story. For example, you might lose fat while gaining muscle, resulting in minimal weight change but significant body composition improvement. These measurements are entirely optional and help you track progress that the scale might not show.
We maintain a historical record of your weight measurements to visualize your progress over time. This data is presented in charts and graphs showing trends, helping you understand whether your current approach is working. Historical tracking also allows our algorithms to predict realistic weight loss or gain trajectories and adjust meal plans accordingly. You can log weight as frequently as you like—daily, weekly, or monthly. All historical data remains private and is only visible to you. You can delete any or all historical entries at any time through your account settings.
Your health goals guide every aspect of your Eatyol experience. We collect information about what you want to achieve, which might include: weight loss (and target weight), muscle gain, weight maintenance, improved athletic performance, better energy levels, improved digestion, better sleep, disease management (with doctor's guidance), or general wellness. We also ask about your timeline, urgency level, and any specific milestones. Understanding your "why" helps us create more meaningful and motivating meal plans. Goals can be updated anytime as your priorities change, and we'll adjust your nutrition plan accordingly.
As you actively use Eatyol, we collect and store data related to your nutrition journey. This data helps us learn your preferences, improve recommendations, and track your nutritional adherence over time.
We store all meal plans generated for you or created by you. This includes both AI-generated personalized plans based on your preferences and any custom meal plans you design yourself. Each meal plan contains information about meals, portions, timing, nutritional breakdown, and shopping lists. We keep a history of your meal plans so you can revisit successful plans, see what worked well, and reuse favorite meal combinations. You can mark meal plans as favorites, share them (if you choose), or delete them at any time.
When you log meals and foods, we record this information to track your daily nutritional intake. This includes what you ate, when you ate it, portion sizes, and calculated nutritional values (calories, macronutrients, vitamins, minerals). Food logging is optional but provides valuable insights into your eating patterns. Over time, this data reveals trends such as which days you struggle most, which meals keep you satisfied, and whether you're meeting your nutritional targets. All food logs are private and can be edited or deleted at any time. We may use anonymized, aggregated food logging data to improve our food database accuracy.
We track your interactions with recipes to improve recommendations. This includes recipes you view, save to favorites, rate, review, cook, or create from scratch. If you create custom recipes, we store them in your personal recipe collection. Your ratings and reviews help our algorithm understand your taste preferences and suggest similar recipes you might enjoy. You can choose to keep your custom recipes private or share them with the Eatyol community. Recipe interaction data helps us identify which types of cuisines, ingredients, and preparation methods you prefer, leading to increasingly accurate suggestions.
Your daily nutrition targets are calculated based on your health goals and can be customized. We store your target daily calorie intake, macronutrient goals (protein, carbohydrates, fats), micronutrient targets (vitamins, minerals, fiber), hydration goals, and meal timing preferences. These targets are used to generate meal plans that meet your specific needs. You can adjust these targets manually if you have specific requirements or are working with a nutritionist. The app tracks your progress toward these goals daily and provides visual feedback on how well you're adhering to your targets.
We provide detailed tracking of your calorie intake and expenditure. This includes calories consumed (from logged foods and meals), estimated calories burned (from activity level and exercise tracking if connected to fitness apps), net calorie balance, and trends over time. Macronutrient tracking shows your daily intake of protein, carbohydrates, and fats, both in grams and as a percentage of total calories. Visual graphs and reports show whether you're consistently meeting your targets or if adjustments are needed. This granular tracking is optional—you can choose to track at a high level (just calories) or drill down into detailed macro and micronutrient tracking.
When you mark foods or recipes as favorites, we save this preference to make future meal planning faster and more personalized. Your favorites list serves multiple purposes: quick access to meals you love, influencing future meal plan generation to include more of what you enjoy, and creating a personal library of go-to recipes. You can organize favorites into collections (e.g., "Quick Breakfasts," "Family Dinners," "Meal Prep Recipes") for better organization. Favorites can be added or removed at any time, and this data is used exclusively to enhance your personal experience—we never share your favorites with others without your explicit consent.
Every piece of information we collect serves a specific purpose in delivering personalized nutrition guidance. Account information ensures secure access, health data enables accurate nutritional calculations, and nutrition data helps us learn your preferences and improve recommendations. We never collect data just for the sake of collecting it—if we don't need it to serve you better, we don't ask for it. You have complete control over your data and can view, modify, export, or delete it at any time through your account settings.
Due to length, remaining sections follow the same comprehensive structure with detailed explanations for each topic.
We're here to help. Our privacy team is committed to addressing your concerns and answering any questions about how we handle your data.
